What is crowdfunding

top

Crowdfunding is an innovative system of collective funding that uses the power of social networks to reach a large number of people with similar interests and to achieve their support, traduced in a donation of money, normally in exchange for a reward. Various individual contributions, which for themselves are not significant, together they can sum enough resources to fund partially or totally a project.
Contributions may be small, medium or major, but any amount is welcome and can help, since what matters is not what you give but the sum of what we all bring to the same goal.

People who contributes funding a project are called micro-patrons (kifunders in our case), in exchange for their participation and in appreciation of their support, are rewarded by the creators of the project that have given their support.

What is Kifund

top

Kifund is the first platform born in Spain dedicated exclusively to crowdfunding for film and media projects.
The added value of Kifund is the experteise in the media and film area, which facilitates meetings beetween users and creators around a common interest well-defined, creating community.

In Kifund we understand crowdfunding as an alternative and complementary way of funding. It is not necessary the only source of funds for a project. This is one (important) reinforcement for creators and a direct way to contact potential audience.

Who is behind Kifund

top

What kind of projects have a place in Kifund

top

All projects related to film and media that are original, creative, innovative and seek funding to carry out in whole or in part.
Since production of short films, feature films, medium-length films, in all its genres and types (documentary, animation, fiction, etc.) to videoclips, film festivals and exhibitions, web series, tv movies or series, publications related to film-making, etc..
All projects have a place, from the professional to amateur projects, provided they meet minimum standards of quality. We support all the artists who work in the complex world of audiovisual, especially film, in all its forms and manifestations.

What does it mean Kifund

top

To create the neologism KIFUND we have inspired in three words of different languages around the world:

Kfui: (japanese romaji) contribution
Kino: (german) cinema, movie theater
Fund: (english) a sum of money saved or made available for a particular purpose

So, for us KIFUND would mean something like "contribution to fund cinema" where KIFUNDERS are all of us who with our support contribute to make into reality film & audiovisuals projects in KIFUND platform.

Publishing a project

What can I seek funding for?

top

You can seek funding for whatever you think is necessary to bring your project to fruition.

Examples include: renting space or equipment, paying a dvd edition, cover costs of advertising and marketing, makeup, costumes, to make a trailer or teaser to sell the project, catering, etc...

Funding goal

top

Funding goal is the sum that you want to achieve to funding your project in part or totally. To define your funding goal you have to make the budget of your project and take into account different variables such as the size of your project, the optimum use of resources you will be able to do, or other sources of income that you have.

Don't forget to include in your budget the economic value of the rewards that you set, the possible shipping costs, Paypal fees and Kifund's final fee. We are at your disposal to advise you to define the most appropriate funding goal for your project.

There are no financial limits, but we recommend you to be realistic. Sometimes it is better to find a medium goal that a disproportionated one that you can not get, although that will depend also on how do you sell the project and the community you are able to generate around it. You have to understand that it is difficult to get € 50000 in 90 days, although is not impossible; there have been cases like The Cosmonaut. The objective of this mode crowdfunding is not to fund a blockbuster.

All-or-nothing funding

top

In terms of crowdfunding exist two main models of funding: the funding that allows the creator keep the money even though the goal is not reached, or the method of "All-or-Nothing" funding.
In Kifund we have chosen this second formula. The All-or-nothing consist in that by the deadline established the creator gets the money only if it has managed to reach 100% or more of their funding goal.
We believe that there is no reason to be that the creator receives less money than he needs, because this could jeopardize the project or its quality and therefore the delivery of the rewards.

Funding period

top

Each project has a funding goal established by the creator, to be attained within a maximum of 90 days. The period begins to run from the date of publication of the project in Kifund.

Once the deadline for achieving the objective arrives there are two possibilities:

-NOT get 100% of the funding goal. In this case, there is no transaction: the commitments of contribution do not materialize (no money is charged in kifunder's accounts) and the creators do not receive any money. Kifund does not charge any amount to the creator.

-YES, 100% or more of the goal is reached: the commitments of contribution are charged to kifunder's accounts and the creator gets the money (less Paypal and Kifund fees).

Overcoming funding goal or achieving the goal ahead of schedule

top

Congratulations! If you've got more money than you had set as a goal, you can improve your project or expand the items to be financed. It is also possible to reach 100% before de date line, in this case and if desired, the project will be open in Kifund until day 90 and you will continue to receive extra contributions.
In any case, keep in mind that extra contributions are extra rewards that you commit to deliver in exchange.

How to publish a project

top

It's easy. The first thing you have to do is register in Kifund by accessing the registration section.

If you are already registered, you need to login your account.

Then, go to "Start your project". Fill out the form as detailed as possible and send it.

In a few days after studying your project we will contact you to give you and answer about its admission, refine those aspects that we believe are necessary, make suggestions, advise or simply tell you when your project is active.

Acceptance of projects

top

Before publishing a project on the platform, our duty is to ensure that a project is well thought out, structured, viable and that the economic objectives will serve to the purpose of the project exclusively and not for other purposes.
At the same time, we can advise you if we detect any point could be improved to achieve the best possible presentation to the successful achievement of the goal.
We promise to contact you and give you an answer within a maximum period of 10 days.

Presentation of several projects in Kifund

top

You can not have more than one project open at once on the platform. If you can submit new applications after the closure of a project.
In the event that a project has gone through the platform without getting the adequate support, you can give a new orientation and submit it again after 3 months.

Rewards

top

Are what the creator offers to their kifunders/patrons in exchange of their contributions.

The rewards are very important because they can decant possible patrons to make a contribution or not. They must be attractive and may be tangible (dvd, shirt, signed photo of the actors ...) or intangible (attend a premiere, a day of shooting, a dinner with the director and actors, go to a launch party ...).

Rewards are defined once your project is approved and you can not change it once it is published on the web.
It is essential that the rewards are commensurate with the contribution made. That does not necessarily have to cost much; be imaginative and use incentives that may encourage users to participate in your project.

Levels of contribution

top

It is advisable to set contribution levels to suit all budgets and explain simply and clearly the rewards associated with each level. For example, note that 1 contribution of 100 € equals 10 contributions of 10 €, so you have to foresee all possibilities.
Contribution levels can be between 5 € to 5000 €.

Fees and service charges

top

The commitments of contribution are made through Paypal payment gateway. When the project reaches 100% of the funding goal, contributions of kifunders are automatically deducted. Whilst the creator is notified and must provide their bank details to Kifund. So, at the end of funding period, the creator receives a transfer for the total amount collected, less the commission of Kifund and costs of Paypal payment platform.

The commision of Kifund is 5% of the total collected only if you get 100% or more of the funding goal.

The commission of the Paypal payment gateway depends on the volume and may be between 3.4% + € 0.35 euros per transfer and 1.9% + € 0.35 EUR.

Why Paypal? Because it is safe, quick and versatile.

If you fail achieving 100% of the funding goal, the fact of having published a project in Kifund has no charge.

How to incorporate other sources of funding for the project

top

If you get cash contributions in other ways, you do not need to include it in Kifund. However, keep in mind that you may find it interesting to add it, as they may be the deciding factor for all individual contributions add up to reach the funding goal you have marked in Kifund.
Consider it, and contact us if you want to include it.

Intellectual property and exploitation

top

The creator retains 100% copyright and ownership of his work that has been published in Kifund platform.

The kifunders/micro-patrons can take part in the benefits of box office or DVD sales if the author desires it by formalizing a written contract with its kifunders.

How can I get information from users who have contributed to my project?

top

The creator can view the list of kifunders from the first contribution, and can communicate with them through an application that allows sending e-mails, etc ... to acknowledge the assistance, to inform, to request data for shipments ...
Only upon reaching 100% will enable the list of kifunders with the amounts contributed by each to the creator.

Manage and administer your project

top

Kifund offers a space for your project, a blog to update your progress, an opportunity to talk with your micro-patrons and still are not, offering you a place to share and disseminate your work and create community.

From your registered user site you can either support any project (be kifunder) as a follower (still a project but are not yet kifunder thereof), and also lets you upload your own project, after evaluation by the Kifund team.

Upon approval of your project is enabled in your private area a management system to administer users. There you can customize your project: edit text, upload videos and photos, edit the rewards.

Videos must be hosted on Vimeo or YouTube.

You also have a blog of the project to keep informed all the kifunders and followers, answer their questions, and gain new support with updates of your work. By subscribing to the RSS feed everyone who wants will be able to receive updates.

You can access the list of kifunders that support your project, and through a simple application integrated in your project manager you can send messages, customized or general. Until you get 100% of your goal will not be visible the amount that has provided each of them.

Edit the project after its publication

top

Once published the project you can edit and add text, images and videos to enrich its content. In any case you can change the goal or the financing period, nor the rewards once the project is active in the platform.

If you want to make substantial changes to your project during the period of fundraising, it is imperative that you contact via email with Kifund and that you report your kifunders. To contact them you have the blog project and the application to send messages embedded in your project manager.

Edit the project once finished the fundraising period

top

After the deadline, you can only continue responding to questions from followers and kifunders and posting updates on the blog of your project for twelve months, but the rest of the content of your page you can no longer edit it.

Cancellation of projects published

top

If you need to cancel a project before reaching 100% goal, you should contact Kifund and then report the reasons for your followers and kifunders by using the blog. After canceling the project, all the commitments of contribution are automatically canceled.

If there are insurmountable difficulties that prevent you from carrying out your project as planned, or have serious doubts about your ability to fulfil commitments to your kifunders, you must stop the project. It is an extreme measure, but keep in mind that if you do not do it and violate your obligations, you could find yourself forced to face legal action by your patrons/kifunders.
If this occurs when you have already received funding, you must return the money to each of the patrons who have supported you.

Legal obligations are determined in the Legal Terms and Conditions accepted to register as a registered user in Kifund.

Who is responsible for ensuring that project creators will fulfil the rewards?

top

As you can see in the Legal Terms and Conditions, liability is only of the creator and who acquires the commitment to carry out the project if it has achieved 100% and deliver the rewards. Otherwise, the patron may take appropriate legal action against the project creator.

Spread your project

top

It is essential that you keep the project alive, updating the blog regularly, responding quickly and clearly to questions from followers and kifunders, adding the progress and illustrate them with photos or videos. Thus the followers of your project feel involved and informed and want to involve their social networks in the project that they are following.

You can also use buttons to publish the project on your Facebook and Twitter, and each project has a url link to copy and paste into any web page, social network, blog, etc.

You also have our support in this regard, giving maximum exposure through Kifund networks.
